123rd Page, 5th Sentence Tag

My sister Wendy tagged me with this topic. I am supposed to grab the book closest to me and write the 5th sentence on the 123rd page. The book is Uncle Tom's Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe.

"Look at my face, - look at my hands, - look at my body," and the young man drew himself up proudly; "why am I not a man, as much as anybody?"

Ok, so this book was given to me to read by my Mom. It is one of her favorite books. I have picked it up and started it 3 times now and have not even made it to the 123rd page! But I really liked this sentence as it says a lot about the theme of the book (as far as I can tell!) It is the story about a slave and his life as he is sold and mistreated. Now that I have found this sentence, I want to start, and more importantly, finish reading this book!

I tag Brenna, Melanie and Carrie!

Introducing Noah!

We love Noah! He is so full of personality. Here are a few of his favorite things:

Jumping on the trampoline...or wrestling on the trampoline with his friends

Noah has recently discovered raquet ball. He loves it and is very good at it!

Noah has a great talent for playing the piano. We are amazed by what he can do!

Noah loves his friends! This is his friend Jackson Tyrrell with Grace and Ashley Tyrrell.

What a relief to finally have a brother! I think they are going to be great friends.

??????

Noah loves to read! His teacher says the only problem she has with Noah is that he is reading when he should be doing other things! I am not so sure that is a problem. He has to keep track of his minutes of reading each day and it is not uncommom for him to get 60-85 minutes a day!

Today Noah told me that he is starting to think legos are really cool.
This picture was taken by Grace with her digital camera. So it is not the best quality. But I could not leave it out because this is Noah doing what he loves most...playing video games! He is a true video game junkie. I think he may have a severe addiction. But he is so good at it and I keep telling myself that he is going to have great eye hand coordination and he needs that skill to become an amazing surgeon!

We love Noah! What a grreat kid.

The Potato Saga Continues!

So a few years ago, Aaron and I began the great potato debate. It all started when Aaron saw me putting potatoes in the oven to bake. I washed them, wrapped them in foil, and placed them in the oven as my mother had taught me and as her mother had taught her. Aaron was concerned because in his eyes I had missed a vital step, I had not poked the potatoes! He proceeded to tell me that if I did not poke the potatoes they would "explode!" After a good laugh I explained to him that my Mom had never poked her potatoes and hers had never exploded. Thus began the great debate. We spoke to both sides of the family and while the Ogden side insisted that you must poke your potatoes, the Bird side (the side from Idaho where potatoes are famous!) had never poked their potatoes. So we ran a test. We wrapped one unpoked potato in foil, another unpoked potato not in foil, a poked potato not in foil, and a poked potato in foil....Well the results were obvious. There were no explosions and we found that the foil wrapped unpoked potato was the best to eat as it was still moist on the inside. So, I had bragging rights for a few years and the matter was settled....until now. Saturday night we had some guests over for dinner. I had run out of foil, so I place the unpoked, unwrapped potatoes in the oven to bake. They were in for one hour. As I went to remove them to serve to our guests, I was in for a surprise. One of the potatoes had exploded all over the oven!! Well as you can imagine, Aaron was loving this moment and ran to get the camera. So while our guests wondered what the big deal was, we laughed and photographed the exploded potato in my oven.
I cannot say I will start poking my potaotes from now on. But I will concede Aaron's point that it is possible to explode a potato in the oven!

Smiles for Grandma!

We Love Grandma and Grandpa Ogden

Grandma & Grandpa know how much my kids love High School Musical. So they brought them a High School Musical game!

Grandma and Grandpa Ogden Visit!

We had such a great time with Aaron's parents. We are so grateful that they drove out here to see us and meet Jacob.

One Month Old

I cannot believe it has been a month since little Jake has come to our family. I feel like I have experienced just about every emotion possible in the past month. Everything from frustration to adoration! I love this new little baby and I am so grateful I have the opportunity to raise this sweet child of God. I just keep telling myself that there is nothing like a newborn and that this time is going to go so fast and I need to enjoy every moment. We have many moments when Jake is fussy and does not want to be put down. There are times when I think I am never going to get anything done because he won't stop crying. And of course there are the sleepless nights when it is just Jake and I and I think "why does everyone else get to sleep but me?" But I try to keep a posiitive attitude and remember that this time won't last forever. I have had some very sweet moments in the middle of the night when I am changing yet another diaper, and Jake looks at me and smiles and I cherish these quiet moments with this new sweet baby!
So, at one month old Jake is 7 lbs. This is an approximate weight. I stood on the scale with him in my arms and then alone and did the math. This was somewhat of a depressing moment as I realized I have a long ways to go to get back to my skinny weight and also because I realized Jake is growing too fast! Jake is also sleeping a 3-4 hour stretch at night and I am so grateful for that! He is starting to wear 0-3 month clothes and has started smiling at us. He has already been given the nickname of Little Jakey by most of us. Although Lucy still calls him Jake Larry. We have been so lucky to have Grandma Bird and Grandma and Grandpa Ogden come visit us. They have all loved their new grandson! We appreciate the help and the visits. We are excited to see what this next month brings!

Heartbreaker

What a heartbreaker! Thanks again to Aunt Melanie for sending this cute shirt to Jake. I think it is so appropriate.
Finally a sleeper that fits Jake! Thanks Melanie for sending some preemie size sleepers. As you can see, they fit great.

Gifts from Aunt Mel!

Aunt Mel sent these books for the kids and they love them. Lucy already has hers memorized. Thanks Mel!
